Writesonic, similar to many other AI writing tools, utilizes the Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) technology, developed by OpenAI, a research laboratory located in San Francisco.
In case you were unaware, GPT-3 is currently the most advanced technology for creating content with any form of language structure. This means that your writing is in capable hands, at least until GPT-4 becomes available.

How to Use Writesonic
For the purpose of this Writesonic review, I opted to try the “Article and Blogs” feature and clicked on it. The selection led to a new window with more specific options, and I ultimately chose the “AI Article Writer” function.
Upon selecting the “AI Article Writer” function, a new page emerged, presenting a well-organized layout consisting of four clear steps:
1. Generate Ideas
2. Create an Introduction
3. Obtain an Outline
4. Generate a Draft Outline.
Up to this point, everything seems straightforward. The actual challenge begins now. Before proceeding, I aimed to assess how user-friendly the instructions are.
I was pleasantly surprised. The instructions were written in an approachable and clear manner, and the website offers numerous in-depth video tutorials to help users maximize the tool's potential.
If you click on “Generate Ideas,” a list of ideas will be displayed, as shown in the screenshot below. As an animal conservation enthusiast, I was curious about the fate of wild animals that are compelled to survive in urban areas.
As I had to write a scholarly article, I was curious to see how well the AI would perform. So, I selected “The Methods Animals Use to Survive in Urban Areas” from the list of ideas presented. In step two, I was presented with a detailed list of introductions to choose from.
A range of outlines to choose from was provided in Step 3.
In just a matter of seconds, a 1,000-word document appeared, and I was pleasantly surprised by how fluently most of the sentences read. They sounded like they were written by a human.
However, while the sentences were well-structured and grammatically sound, the generated content was lacking in depth and appeared somewhat repetitive. It would require significant editing and additional text to make it more informative and engaging. Nonetheless, the AI-generated content served its purpose of kickstarting the article and saved a substantial amount of time.
Next, I decided to try the “Sentence Expander” tool from the list of available options. I selected a sentence and was pleasantly surprised with the results – the article improved almost instantly.
I experimented with various features and found the software both enjoyable and user-friendly.
I further tested the AI writer by generating three additional articles and using various sections to check for grammar and plagiarism.
While using Writesonic, I noticed a significant lack of one crucial feature – the ability to choose the writing style of the generated content. It would have been beneficial to be able to select whether the tone should be casual, academic, or geared towards children. Unfortunately, this option was not available, and as a result, the test article had a more casual tone.
Although the “Sentence Expander” tool helped elevate the content to a more scholarly level, it required significant effort to do so on a sentence-by-sentence basis. Ultimately, it may not be worth the added effort.
After completing your article using Writesonic's AI features, you can export it for further editing. With the article generator doing about 90% of the work, the editing process becomes much quicker and easier.
Grammar and Spelling
According to Writesonic, their software includes grammar and spelling checks. To test this, I selected approximately 450 words from the generated content and ran it through Grammarly.
The initial check without making any corrections or using any suggestions resulted in a score of 83, which is decent but the content still required further refinement.
Plagiarism
Writesonic guarantees, just as it does with grammar and spelling verifications, that the text it produces is free from plagiarism. When the output was evaluated on Grammarly, it scored only 5% in potential plagiarism, which is quite commendable.
Yet, it was observed that the lengthier the work, the more likely it was to return potential plagiarism results.
Accuracy
Assessing this is a complex matter, as it hinges on your writing topic and the specific “Article Title” you input. Precision is key; otherwise, the outlines produced may be too broad.
Currently, no AI writer can promise complete accuracy or fact-checking capabilities.
Nevertheless, Writesonic does generate quite impressive content. It's crucial, however, to verify its accuracy before releasing it publicly.
